About this deal

This release of the Classics Rodimus is a modified version from the Asia market-exclusive "Challenge at Cybertron" 3-pack, replacing Rodimus' Autobot sigil with a heat-sensitive rubsign. The figure shares tooling with the concurrently released Energon Igniters Power Dropkick and was later retooled into Shatter. Hot Rod was planned to be part of a 3-pack alongside Optimus Prime and Crosshairs, but the set was never released.

In the WWII flashback of The Last Knight, Hot Rod is shown to transform into a Steyr truck, but his robot-mode kibble is from an M8 armored car. Unless you're transforming him properly, Hot Rod's painted crotch is prone to chipping if you press him down while rolling on flat surfaces. While the toy's deco was similar to the first Classics figure, Hot Rod features yellow plastic on his spoilers, thighs, and his launcher's trigger, and grey plastic on his shins. His enhanced articulation includes opening hands that can grasp his Matrix and "butterfly" shoulder joints that aid him in assuming iconic poses from the film.

Hot Rod was re-released alongside them in the first wave Legacy Core Class toys, as seen below, and given Hot Rod includes an Energon weapon and released in the final wave of Kingdom, it is likely Hot Rod was originally intended for release only in Legacy. The set also comes with a similarly modified Universe Cyclonus (with Nightstick) from the "Challenge at Cybertron" set, the Autobot Matrix of Leadership accessory from the 2002 New Year Special Convoy reissue of Generation 1 Optimus Prime, and " Rodimus vs. Like most Titanium Series Cybertron Heroes, this figure includes a display stand with a removable nameplate. Care must be taken when handling these three effects parts as they are made from thin, hard plastic that can break if bent, as opposed to the more durable mushy goodness of the other effects parts. That brings us to the Studio Series 86 release, which is just a no-nonsense of G1 Hot Rod as he appears in Transformers: The Movie.

He also includes a whopping ten effect parts, 7 of which are translucent blue redecos from Siege Omega Supreme, which can attach to the various 5 mm ports on the figure or the 3 mm posts at the tips of the Photon Eliminator and exhaust pipes. Undocumented in the instructions is that the sword's handle can also plug onto the front end of the spoiler. Rodimus comes with a PVC figurine of the Rodimus's "Kiss Player" partner Shaoshao Li and a bamboo dumpling steamer; Shaoshao can just barely fit into his car interior, though she's clearly not "driving".The Classics/ Henkei Sons of Cybertron set was intended for the Japanese Chara Hobby 2010 festival, but was also initially offered as a raffle prize at the Cybertron Philippines, Toy Kingdom and SM Makati and Hasbro-partnered Autobot Alliance/Cybertron Con event that launched the Generations, Transformers (2010) and Power Core Combiners toylines in the Philippines. Grey prototypes displayed at HasCon 2017 show he originally came with a cannon similar to Lockdown's, but with additional parts to add a peg on the side of the cannon and to fill in the gap for Lockdown's head. The Last Knight 1-Step Turbo Changer Autobot Hot Rod is a retool of Age of Extinction One-Step Changer Lockdown, transforming from vehicle to robot by pressing a button on his vehicle mode. Released as part of the Bumblebee Energon Igniters line, Speed Series Hot Rod is a retool of Energon Igniters Speed Barricade and transforms from robot to '80s muscle car, with engineering highly reminiscent of the original 2007 Legends Class Barricade toy. His face also appears to take visual cues from how he was drawn by Derek Yaniger in the Generation 2 comic book.
