About this deal

I was team averygrayson from book one and while I don’t necessarily feel the same way right now, it has everything to do with the way Avery and Jameson work better together as a couple, than I think Avery and Grayson ever could. I couldn’t see it in book one but it was pretty evident in book two. I also really liked the development of the plot and the secrets were revealed in a way that made the tension rise and rise. The pacing was also really nice and since I was invested from the beginning, the foreshadowing and little hints were visible at times but after reading the reveals, all of them were clear.

Omg I had such a fun time rereading this!! 💙💙 This was my favorite the first time round and after rereading it, I definitely understand why 🤩🤩 There are SO many good scenes in here- THE INTERVIEW SCENE 🤭🤭- and the mystery is just so entertaining ✨ The Grayson content in this book tho >>>>> ah, this feeling... so satisfying. But anyways, I had it from the beginning but throughout the book I kept changing because everyone was acting so sus. smh I still don't know who to trust!! what is this sorcery?? This was the Grayson I’d met weeks ago: dripping power and well aware that he could come out on top in any battle. He didn’t make threats, because he didn’t have to.” The plot was as good as the first book. With more secrets and riddles and plot twists I loved how every level of the mystery was slowly unraveled and how we actually had to travel to places this time to figure it all out. It was engaging and really fun to read. I admit the plot does add a lot without totally progressing, but it’s so fun I can’t help but love it. I hope the third book does have a clear finale type direction but either way I suspect I’ll enjoy it. If you are looking for a fun and fast-paced YA-Mystery, with twist and turns galore, as well as intriguing and suspicious characters, you should definitely give this one a shot! There's also a bit of a love triangle happening. The Hawthorne family is full of handsome and charming young men, such a plus for our Avery. okay here it goes. the romance. yes this is what i want to talk about. i have a problem with how jennifer wrote the love triangle. Without explanation, the recently deceased elder Hawthorne, decided to leave almost his entire estate to Avery. The only catch is, she needs to move into the extravagant Hawthorne House and live there continuously for a full year.

Now I do need to mention that Grayson and Jameson need to go too therapy because these people hate themselves more than I hate myself and I go to therapy. Let me just tell you that there were one too many plot twist in the end and somehow everyone was related and no one was related and now I need a family tree drawn out because I am confused. The writing, was very average. Nothing special. Mediocre at best. Unless you’re counting Max dialogue. The suspense was nonexistent. The chapters were too short. WHY ARE THE CHAPTERS THAT SHORT.she will always slay💅the anxiety that i had for her the ENTIRE book omg. also her relationship with libby!? they are so precious i swear🥹everything that libby did for avery was everything<3 the only slight problem i have with avery is her decisions. I'm not a big fan of love triangles... I'm not a fan of that trope. Period. Even more when they're not well developed and it's clear as day with whom the mc will end up with. It seemed like Jameson was pushing himself away from Avery just to give Grayson some space to make his "move", which was ridiculous and illogical. Avery was just a pawn. Sometimes authors come up with the plot as they go on with the story but it was clear how everything was thought through and it was amazing. jameson winchester hawthorne is hungry. he's been looking for something. he's been looking for it since the day he was born.” I know a lot of y’all are #TeamJameson (don’t worry, we can still be friends), but can we just talk about Grayson for un momento.
