About this deal

It was brought to market by Norwegian confectioner Freia in 1937, two years after the KitKat. But it was in the 1960s that Freia took a critical step. They began to promote the Kvikk Lunsj as the chocolate bar for hikers and skiers. The outdoors connection Craig also offers some more unusual chocolate flavours. How about a chocolate bar that tastes like smoked oak? Although this flavoured dark chocolate might sound a bit odd, it did win the International AoC Bronze Award in 2019 and is definitely well worth a taste. Another flavour combination that might surprise you is chocolate with olive oil – a fantastic match. Nidar is the big rival to Freia and is based out of Trondheim in central Norway. The company began in 1912, with Christmas and Easter marzipan the first notable products. Most Norwegian recipes for risboller include raw eggs, but since a lot of you are American and raw eggs are not always safe to eat in the US, I created a version of risboller without eggs. And I actually think this is my favorite risboller recipe now! They’re so easy to make, but they taste quite unique and always get so many compliments.

These three brands of Norwegian chocolate spreads are each unique and delicious in their own way and are sure to please any chocolate lover. Smultringer are basically an extra delicious old fashioned donut. I always buy these in the grocery store instead of making them from scratch, but my grandmother’s neighbor always used to make these so I do know that the homemade ones are even tastier. I would use this Norwegian recipe for smultringer. Here’s my translation: Norwegian smultringer recipe Currently celebrating its 75th anniversary, Kvikk Lunsj marketing campaigns have developed over the years. However, the basic concept of the connecting with Norway's outdoors lifestyle has stayed central. Djungelvrål is a Swedish word and translates into “the scream of the jungle”. I wanted to list a Swedish treat, and this super salty type of licorice is indeed very popular over at our neighbour, but also in Norway. These salty jungle monkeys will definitely turn your taste buds inside out. Norwegian sweets and candies are some of the best in the world. From Twist to Kremtopper, there is something for everyone. The unique flavors and textures of Norwegian chocolates are sure to please even the most discerning sweet tooth.

Nidar Bamsemums

The wrappers now feature a different hiking and/or skiing trail inside each one complete with the phrase “God Søndagstur”. For the non-Norwegian speakers amongst you, it essentially wishes the hungry recipient a good Sunday hike!

Norwayis known for its stunning landscapes, Viking history, and delicious food. If you’re looking for a sweet treat while in Norway, you won’t be disappointed. With so many tasty options, it’s hard to narrow down the must-try Norwegian candy and sweets. Denmark’s 2020 cocoa bean imports (773 tonnes) marked a sharp drop from the 3,160 tonnes imported in 2019. Danish imports are mainly sourced from the United Kingdom: 99% in 2019 and 93% in 2020. The drop in imports between 2019 and 2020 is most likely a direct effect of Brexit. In 2021, import levels are expected to return to 2019 volumes. A University of Oslo blog post points out that the recipe—even today—remains quite different. There's also different nutritional values between the products, which Kvikk Lunsj having a higher fat content and calorie count. Roald Dahl was born in Norway to Norwegian parents and, despite growing up and residing in Britain for nearly all of his life, he felt a great connectedness with his Norwegian heritage. It seems only fitting to choose Norway’s National Cake since 2002: the Kvæfjordkake. Sustainability issues are pressing for both producers and buyers, and Scandinavian consumers are generally well aware about this. All this means that sustainability will remain high on the Scandinavian agenda. Buyers will continue to require sustainability activities at origin and will work towards more sustainable sourcing practices, either through purchasing certified cocoas or through direct projects at origin. High-quality products gain popularity in the Scandinavian chocolate marketKvikk Lunsj has also become something of a cultural symbol in Norway. It's often used as a shorthand for Norwegian culture and values, and has been referenced in Norwegian literature, film, and television. In fact, it's even been suggested that Kvikk Lunsj should be considered a national symbol of Norway, alongside the Norwegian flag and the bunad (traditional Norwegian clothing).

In all three markets, however, the organic market is relatively large and growing. This is mainly the case because of growing health awareness among consumers. In addition, there has been an increase in organic product availability in Scandinavia in recent years, creating a much more interesting product offer for consumers. Today, all major brands and retailers’ private label brands have a range of organic chocolates. Some private label brands are even entirely dedicated to organic products, such as Änglamark of Coop Denmark’s.Sjokade is another famous brand of chocolate spread. It is made from cocoa powder and coconut oil and has a lighter, more delicate flavor.

Norwegian krumkaker (the plural of krumkake is krumkaker) are so delicious, and actually a lot easier to make than you might expect. Criollo is mainly grown in Central America, northern South America, the Caribbean and Sri Lanka. Criollo makes up approximately 5% of the global cocoa production. These beans have a delicate and sweet flavour. Criollo is often mixed with other varieties when making chocolate, given that it is scarce and expensive. Fine flavour cocoa beans are produced from Criollo cocoa trees. Well-known varieties are Chuao, Porcelana and Ocumare. If you’re looking at selling premium cocoa to the Scandinavian market, try to establish direct trade relationships with smaller traders and chocolate makers. See the section on market segments and trade channels in the Entering the Scandinavian Cocoa Market study for more information. The candy is light, with just a hint of saltiness. It’s also very indulgent, making it a favorite treat for many people (including me). If you’re looking for something different than the traditional herring dish, then salt sild is definitely worth trying. You might be surprised at how much you enjoy it! Over on Gerd's Consumer Behaviour Blog, he talks very fondly of the Kvikk Lunsj, a sentiment which seems shared by so many Norwegians I meet:

Sweden is the largest chocolate product exporter in Scandinavia with 75 thousand tonnes of chocolate products exported in 2020, equivalent to 1.8% of total EU exports. Half of Swedish exports were destined to neighbouring countries: Finland, Norway and Denmark each imported approximately 12 thousand tonnes of chocolate products from Sweden in 2020. Denmark’s total chocolate product exports reached 22 thousand tonnes in 2020, while Norway exported only 6.7 thousand tonnes. Twist is a popular Norwegian chocolate that combines the rich flavor of dark or milk chocolate with the sweetness of caramels. The result is a delicious treat that has something for everyone. Twist is perfect for those who crave both sweet and savory flavors, and its unique texture is sure to please. It’s a treat that is found in many Norwegian homes, and every Norwegian got his or hers favorite piece. The European Union’s total chocolate production reached an estimated 3.7 million tonnes in 2019. Denmark produced 21 thousand tonnes of chocolate products in 2019, accounting for only 0.6% market share. The largest chocolate producing EU countries in volume were Germany and Italy, with 1,159 thousand tonnes and 553 thousand tonnes respectively. The chocolate production volumes of Sweden and Norway are not published. A nice touch on the wrapper is a small box identifying the region of the hike featured inside. So if you're heading to Tromsø, for example, you can look for the Tromsø bars before you buy! Of course, hikers don't actually rely on a chocolate bar to plan their routes, but it's powerful marketing all the same! Sweden has the largest organic retail market in Scandinavia with €2.1 billion in 2019, making up approximately 9% of all retail sales. In Denmark, the share of organic retail sales was even higher with 12% in 2019, when total organic retail sales reached €2 billion, marking a growth of 9.4% compared to the previous year. The Norwegian organic market is a lot smaller, with organic retail sales amounting to €441 million in 2019, and only 1% of total retail sales estimated to be organic. Organic food consumption in Norway increased by 8% in 2019.
